About Us

Brown County Community Foundation, Inc.
The Brown County Community Foundation exists for the purpose of enhancing the lives of the citizens and organizations of our community. Ours is a non-profit enterprise that seeks to provide the mechanism through which those who desire to help others in our community may carry out their philanthropy. A 12-member elected board of trustees, representing the community, oversees the activities of the Foundation, including stewardship of the charitable gifts received and the endowed funds established. Our purpose is to invest wisely our assets in order that we may grow and provide financial assistance in education, social services, health and welfare, arts and culture, and the environment in Brown County.

Since its founding in 1993, the Foundation has distributed to the community over $11 million, which includes the CAPE Grant for the CRC. With the assistance of Lilly Endowment, Inc. the Foundation has been influential in many community projects, including the construction of Brown County’s public library, the YMCA, two volunteer fire departments, and renovation of the Art Gallery, Humane Society, and Hickory Ridge Community Center.

Since 1998, twenty-six Brown County students have received 4-year Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships. The Foundation awarded thirty-three smaller scholarships in 2009 alone. These are but a sampling of projects that have had a major impact on our community of 17,000. The board of trustees and three-person staff are only temporary caretakers of this organization. The Community Foundation is exactly that ~ an organization “owned” by the citizens of Brown County. We invite you to take a brief look at us, our mission, and our accomplishments, in hopes that you, too, may join the thousands of others who have helped our community through the auspices of the BCCF.
